I was born in 1940 on the Greek island of Samos. I lived in a small village with my mom, dad, two brothers and sister. The village was on top of this not very tall mountain, lets say hill, overlooking the Aegean and the mountains of Turkey. My dad had some vineyards that he was always very proud to have, as well as some fruit trees. He was especially proud to have plants grafted from California, like Santa Rosa plums.

Olive oil and grapes were the crops that would have been supporting us then, so we had lots of olive trees and vineyards. There was a co-op at that time where they would take the grapes, weigh them, measure the specific sugar concentration and then later, pay you accordingly.
